Queen’s Hotel and Precinct CBD Renewal Project

The HIVE is a unique 18,000m2 placemaking project with a focus on supporting science, heritage, arts and culture. The HIVE capitalises on its unique location fronting the iconic Townsville Strand and supports one of the most innovative waterfront development precincts in Australia. The HIVE will significantly increase tourism to the region, provide short term jobs and long term permanent jobs and boost to the economy of Townsville and North Queensland.

Including a prestigious hotel, a 1,000 seat concert hall and convention centre (to be the home to the Australian Festival of Chamber Music) this redevelopment will transform the city and an iconic Townsville landmark.

Future stages will include tertiary education, marine and tropical science research and tourism facilities, residential apartments, medical and allied health facilities and commercial office space (10,000m2 approved), an indigenous art gallery, performance space and open spaces together with a boutique cafe and dining precinct within the majestic Queen’s Hotel.

The Hive is at the centre of future developments including: the Crystal Lagoons (400m North), Sealink $56m Sealink Tourism Infrastructure Plan (200m South East), The Ville Resort and Casino $40m redevelopment (600m East) and Port of Townsville redevelopment project.

Gleeson Group is a family-owned boutique investment group with a diverse range of investments including; property investment, commercial and residential property development and the holding of strategic investments in public and private companies.

The Gleeson group has grown from humble beginnings germinating from the drive and foresight of John (Jack) F. Gleeson. Jack began his career in radio as a technician and proceeded to learn about the business of communications and sales which culminated in his acquisition of 4AY radio in the 1950s. In 1961, after recognising an imminent tipping point in the shape of commercial television, Jack built the first television station in Northern Australia and proceeded to lay down the foundations for the Gleeson Group.

We hold special values within our group of companies and these guide how they are run. Using Our Five Principles as a guide requires us to think and act appropriately towards our associates, our assets, our people and our businesses. Our Five Principles are demanding and we believe they are the real reason for our success: they keep us true to ourselves at times of growth and guide us reliably when we are challenged. As a new generation of the Gleeson family takes on the care of the principles and the culture of our group, Our Five Principles are as relevant to the generation of the twenty- first century as they were in the past. At a time when change is constant, and as our group continues to evolve, Our Five Principles offer a link between our traditions and a bridge into the future.
